Stakeholder Relations Update – April 4, 2025

Hello Members,

As April begins, last week’s snowfall was a welcome opportunity for many of our members to get equipment and manpower back on the streets for a late-season cleanup.

In mid-March, our team had the privilege of attending a sold-out fundraising event at the West St. Paul Access Centre, where we joined elected officials from the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal levels. We were fortunate to have Deputy Mayor Janice Lukes, Chair of the City of Winnipeg’s Public Works Committee, as our guest, along with Chief Kevin Mantie from Manitoba Motor Carrier Enforcement. It was an excellent evening of networking and relationship building.

Events like these are invaluable for our association, allowing us to connect with key decision-makers who impact our industry. I want to extend my thanks to our volunteer board members for making the time to attend and represent our association at this important annual gathering.

April 1st marks the removal of the carbon tax from “consumer” pricing, with relief expected immediately at the point of sale. Meanwhile, on April 2nd, we will gain more insight into U.S. tariffs—who they will apply to and what their broader impact may be. Opinions on both sides of the border vary widely, but one thing remains clear: whether you call it a tariff or a tax, it ultimately affects the bottom line. While taxes are a necessary part of life, the question remains—do they need to be an overreaching burden?

Finally, with what is being called the most important election of our lifetime just 26 days away, I encourage everyone to make their voices heard. Every vote counts—be sure to get out and vote!

Take care,

Bruce Henley
