Greetings to the Membership,
It has been another very busy and productive month for your Executive Board and administrative staff.
We’ve been working closely with the province on the rollout and enforcement of the recently passed Bill 38 amendment, which will take effect this upcoming snow clearing season. A great deal of behind-the-scenes work is underway to ensure the right information is communicated to everyone who uses our streets, roads, back lanes, and highways across Manitoba.
As an Association, we are incredibly proud of the hard work and advocacy efforts of our team. These efforts have resulted in meaningful legislative changes that recognize the importance of safety for our equipment and operators during snow clearing operations. This is a major step forward, well done and thank you to all involved!
We’ve also initiated productive discussions with the Executive Team at CAA regarding shared priorities related to road safety and infrastructure. With over 1,000 employees and hundreds of thousands of members nationwide, CAA is a well-respected organization. We believe that by working together, our associations can be powerful advocates for improved and renewed infrastructure, road safety, and the essential services that keep our transportation networks operating 24/7. More updates on this exciting collaboration will follow in the coming months.
In addition, we were pleased to once again participate in the annual Motor Carrier and Manitoba Infrastructure stakeholder meeting. This important session provides valuable updates and consultations on projects and initiatives for 2025. Topics included: enforcement, permitting, bridge and road updates, carrier profiles, safety programs, regulatory changes, engineering services, and seasonal weight zones. I attended alongside the Provincial Committee Members Dale Omeniuk and Neal Wirgau, representing HEAT’s interests and voice at the table.
Your City of Wpg Committee has been discussing various items with Michael Cantor and Jean Luc Lambert in the past weeks, and we will be meeting with them in Person tomorrow, we will report back in the August on updates from this meeting.
Our Annual HEAT Classic Golf Tournament being held on July 9th is sold out! It is sure to be a great day filled with fun, networking, great food, and prizes. A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, participants, staff, and board members who make this event such a highlight each year. Be sure when you are visiting Hole #9 to “Soak the President”. Our President Gord Bragg is a great sport as he comes back for a second year of having buckets of water dumped over his head by industry colleagues with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Thank you all for your ongoing support. HEAT continues to be recognized by all levels of government and industry stakeholders as a key contributor to building and maintaining great communities across Manitoba.
Warm Regards,
Bruce Henley
