STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS REPORT
OCTOBER 2026

Greetings to the Membership,

As we roll into the fall season, it is hard to believe that there is a good likelihood we could see some type of snow event within the next six weeks! The seasons are changing, and a reminder the clocks will not change moving forward so this winter it will be darker in the mornings than we’re used too. We are also watching with anticipation to see what this fall’s municipal elections will bring to the City of Winnipeg and communities across Manitoba. Remember get out and vote and don’t take the word of someone who tells you vote for this person – educate yourself and make the decision your own decision.

To top it all off, the anticipated weather patterns associated with the current “Super El Niño” are expected to bring a tremendous amount of uncertainty as to what the upcoming winter may look like across our region.

Winter Snow-Clearing Safety and the New Legislation

Our Executive Director, Shannon Hiebert, and I recently met with the executive team of CAA Manitoba to discuss future opportunities for combined messaging that can be used through radio, print, social media and other public awareness initiatives regarding the changes to winter snow-clearing equipment and the new legislation.

It will be extremely important that we continue to form partnerships and establish strong relationships with organizations and individuals who share our roads and can assist us in getting this important message out to the public.

The roads need to be cleared, and they need to be kept safe. The work zones where our operators and equipment are working must be respected. Motorists need to understand that snow-clearing equipment is performing an essential service and that everyone has a responsibility to slow down, provide space and exercise caution when approaching these operations.

At the same time, enforcement will be an important component. Those who choose to ignore the rules and put operators, equipment and the travelling public at risk need to be actively monitored and held accountable by the agencies responsible for enforcement.

This is an important opportunity for HEAT to work collaboratively with our industry partners and government agencies to educate the public before enforcement becomes necessary.

MPI Stakeholder Engagement

This month, I also had the opportunity to represent HEAT at the annual MPI Stakeholder Year-in-Review event held in Winnipeg. The event provided an excellent opportunity to speak directly with members of MPI’s senior executive team, MPI Board members and other industry stakeholders. Maintaining HEAT’s visibility and continuing to build these relationships is extremely important.

When we bring forward comments, questions, concerns or suggestions on behalf of our membership, it is important that our association is recognized and heard as a professional and credible voice for the heavy equipment and aggregate trucking industry.

Your membership and contributions make it possible for us to continue this work and ensure that HEAT remains engaged at the tables where decisions affecting our industry are being discussed.

Mardi Gras on the Green Golf Tournament

In September, we held another successful event — our “Mardi Gras on the Greens” golf event. It was another tremendous day filled with great people, great prizes, food, drinks and, most importantly, networking and fellowship within our industry.

A tremendous amount of effort goes into organizing these events. Our staff and executive work very hard to ensure that our members and guests have a great experience. We are very fortunate to have so many committed individuals, sponsors and industry partners supporting our association. Without their continued commitment and partnerships, the success of these events would not be possible.

A big thank you to everyone who participated, sponsored and helped make the event such a success!

RPM Trucking Industry Safety has developed this video series to provide professional drivers with practical stretching exercises they can incorporate throughout their workday.  Long periods of sitting can take a toll on anyone, but professional drivers face unique challenges when it comes to staying active and finding opportunities to stretch. We hope this series provides simple, useful ways to help drivers incorporate movement and stretching into their daily routine.

Be sure to incorporate these into your next “Toolbox Talk” or insert the link into your next digital employee newsletter! Pro-active initiatives such as stretching go a long way in preventing time off claims!

Check out the videos here!

This is the final game where HEAT members can access discounted tickets — come out for the Thanksgiving matchup and enjoy the tailgate, game‑day specials, and the excitement of live football.

Print the poster here to post for employees to be able to take advantage of this discount!
